Anne/3k Brooks was born 30 Apr 1716 at Kittery, Maine,2,1, where she married, 5 Sep (int. 11 Aug) 1739, Amos/4 Paul of Kittery, son of John/3 Paul and Margaret James.3 The will of her grandfather Daniel/2 Fogg, dated 14 Jul 1747, bequeathed 50s in bills of public credit to be divided equally among the children of my daughter Mary Brooks decd.4,5

Amos/4 Paul was born 19 Feb 1712/13 at Kittery, Maine.1 In 1717, though Amos was just a young boy, his father deeded him his homestead, he to pay sister Katherine £20.1 He married, 5 Sep (int. 11 Aug) 1739 at Kittery, Anne/3k Brooks of Kittery, daughter of William/2k? Brooks and Mary/3 Fogg.2

Samuel/1 Fogg, of Hampton, New Hampshire (then a district of the Massachusetts Bay Colony), first appears in New England 30 Oct 1647, when Mr. John Legate [Legali] brought suit in the Quarterly Court at Ipswich, on behalf of kinsman Samuell Fogg against William Fullar of Hampton, for not teaching him the trade of locksmith. Samuel had four years of his apprenticeship left to serve. The court released him from his apprenticeship to Fuller, binding him for the remainder of his time to Isaac Cozen, an expert smith of Rowley, and awarded the apprentice 30s and costs.1,2
     Samuel Fogg was a juryman of Hampton court 4 Aug 1653, 14 Oct 1663, and 11 Oct 1664. He signed a petition for the release of Robert Pike which was presented to the General Court May 1654, and when questioned by the investigating committee as to his reason for signing, certified that he had signed the petition unadvisedly. Freeman of Hampton, 3 Oct 1654, selectman 1665 and 1663, constable 1660. In 1663 he had two shares in the cow common. One of 68 members of the church at Hampton, 18 Sep 1671.
     "He was a farmer, owned a farm in Hampton, on which he lived and died. He was early a member of the Congregational church in that place, and probably Anne, his first wife; his second wife joined it May 29, 1698."1,3
     He married (1), 12 Dec 1652, Anne Shaw of Hampton, daughter of Roger Shaw and Anne (–?–), who died 9 Dec 1663.1,2 He married (2), 28 Dec 1665, Mary Page of Hampton, daughter of Robert Page and Margaret Goodwin. Of his 8 children, 5 were by his 1st wife.1 He made his will 9 Apr, and died 15 Apr 1672.1,2 His 2nd wife Mary died 8 Mar 1699, "aged 56."1

Child with Mary Dixon:

John Staples, a carpenter of Kittery, Maine, was born there circa 1677 (± 60 in 1737).1 He married, Oct 1696 (court rec.), Mary Dixon of Eliot, daughter of Peter Dixon and Mary Remick.2,3
     The will of John Staple of Kittery, yeoman, was dated 21 Nov 1744 and proved 16 Jul 1745. In it his name is spelled both Staple and Staples but signed Staples. He names sons Hezekiah and Solomon (both of "whom I have advanced already"), Samuel, Thomas (apparently deceased), and daughters Hannah Whitehouse, Annah Brooks, Elizabeth Tomson, and Mary Hanscomb ("if living when the time of paymt hereafter mention'd comes"). He left his wife all his personal estate, one-third the income of his real estate, and the easterly end of the house "from Ridge pole to the Bottom of the Cellar." He left his son Mark Staples all his real estate and the duty to provide his mother's third and individual legacies for the other children out of the income of the estate. Mark and his mother were named executors. Witnesses: Ioseph Fernald, Iames Fernald Jr, Timothy Brown.1,3
     Inventory £808:16:4, old tenor, submitted 31 Oct 1745 by Thomas Knight, Joseph Fernald and John Godsoe.3

Daniel/4k Brooks, probably his parents' firstborn and thus born as early as 1734, was baptised 1 Nov 1739 at Kittery, Maine.1 Perhaps removed with his son Daniel, or followed him in old age, from Kittery to Falmouth (now Portland), Maine.2 Reportedly died in 1820.3

Joshua/4k Brooks Jr., baptised 1 Nov 1739 at Kittery, Maine1, married there, 12 Jan [20 Mar, Stackpole] 1760, Lydia Clark of Wells, where he settled.1,3 His household at Wells is undoubtedly one of the two recorded there to a Joshua Brooks in the 1790 census: one including one male over 16, two males under, and three females; and the second including one male over 16 and one female.4 He reportedly died at Wells 23 Apr 1821, a. 81.5

John/4k Brooks, born 5 Dec 1739 at Portsmouth, New Hampshire2, and baptised the 9th of the same month at nearby Kittery, Maine1, married, 15 Nov 1761 (int. 5 Sep, Kittery), probably at Falmouth, Maine, Martha Staples of Eliot, daughter of Solomon Staples and Martha Tobey.2,3
     His 1790 census household at Falmouth included himself, two males under 16 (sons William and John), and five females (Martha and their youngest four daughters).4 Also head of a household at Falmouth that year was his nephew Daniel Brooks.5
     Probably the John Brooks, aged 67, whose death was reported, 1807 [newspapers dated 16/20 Jul], at Pejepscot, Maine.6,7 His widow reportedly died at Eliot, Apr 1841, a. 101.8
