Oliver/5k Brooks was born in 1792 at Eliot, Maine.2 As a young man he removed to Dover, New Hampshire, as rather effusively described by his grandson in Life-work of Elbridge Gerry Brooks.2

There came from the little hamlet of Elliot [sic] to the more pretentious town of Dover a green country lad who, seeking to gain a foothold in the world, found it in the chance offered him for work as "chore-boy" in Ela's Tavern, an old and comfortable cross-road hostelry which, built in revolutionary times, had for many a year afforded shelter to man and beast from its position as a regular and convenient stopping-place on the highway between Portsmouth and the up-country villages. The Elas were a strong Universalist family, converts under Ballou and Turner, zealous in their defence of their new faith, and bringing all the inmates of their household within the influence of this zeal and loyalty. Among these inmates was a young Dover girl, reared to the helpful ways of all New England damsels in those early days. Buxom, cheery, and strong, it is not to be wondered at that in that old tavern by the highway the ever-old yet ever-fresh romance should have again been lived over, and that Susan Horne should have soon won the heart of the irrepressible Elliot youth. So the natural consequences followed, and on September 12th, 1815, Oliver Brooks and Susan Horne joining hands agreed that for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, they two would walk the world together.3,2

They subsequently lived at Portsmouth, New Hampshire.4 Oliver died in 18725, Susan in 1882.6 They are buried in Pine Hill Cemetery, Dover.3

Levi M/6k Brooks, born 4 Nov 1832 at Eliot, Maine2,3, was one of two males between the ages of 5-10 enumerated in his parents' Eliot household in 1840.4 There again (a. 17, attended school) in his widowed mother's household, 18505, and again with his mother (a. 27, farmer) in 1860.6 In 1880 he was in his brother Alfred's home (a. 46, ship carpenter) with their unmarried sister Eliza.7 In 1900 he remained in Alfred's household (a. 67, farmer, b. Nov 1832).2 In 1910, of the original family, only Levi and Eliza remained, living together at Eliot.8
Unmarried, he died at Eliot 30 Sep 1919, a. 86.3 Levi and two siblings are buried with their parents and share a family monument in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, South Eliot.9

The Brooks Memorial Park and Cemetery [located across the State Road from Mount Pleasant Cemetery] has a long and interesting history … The last members of the Brooks family, Levi and his sister, Liza, promised their niece, Marietta Frye Abbott, that if she took care of them in their old age, they would deed the property to her, which they did.
Marietta died in 1955 and her husband, Horace P. Abbott, inherited the land. He had been the caretaker of the Mount Pleasant Cemetery for 25 years and had a keen interest in cemeteries. He decided to take some of the land and establish the Brooks Memorial Park and Cemetery.
After doing much of the work of clearing and preparing the land himself, Horace died in 1960 at the age of 87. The first lots were ready for sale in 1970.10
