Pvt. David/6w Brooks was born 22 Oct 1754 (per town rec. and pension affidavit) or 1755 (per family bible) at Killingly, Connecticut.2,3 He served in the Massachusetts line in the Revolution, enlisting at New Marlborough, Massachusetts, where he was resident by 1775 and would remain until 1811.4,5 After his military service he married, 2 Mar 1781 at Pittsfield, Massachusetts, Waitstill (Waity) Blanchard.5,2
The 1790 census recorded David Brooks's household at New Marlborough: one male over 16 (corresponding to himself), two males under 16 (sons John and Benjamin), and four females (wife Waity and daughters Phebe, Zilpha and Sarah). David's brothers, Jabez and Luther Brooks, and his sister Lydia, with her husband Rufus Allin, were also recorded at N.M. that year.6 David and Waity were in residence there 25 Jun 1797, when their daughter Mina's death was noted in the town clerk's book.7 David Brooks was again enumerated at N.M. in the census of 18008 and 1810.9
He removed in 1811 to Trumbull County, Ohio, where he settled at Braceville. There he sold property to his son John in 18175,2, and was enumerated in the 1820 census.10
There, 23 Aug 1832, a. 77, he applied for a Revolutionary pension. He declared that in fall 1776 he enlisted at New Marlborough as a private in Capt. George King's company, Col. Northey's regiment of the Massachusetts line.

We were marched to Ticonderoga; we were employed at Mount Independence in building a block house, I got my leg broke and was fifty days unable to do duty. This was a term of three months, but I was in the service untill after Gen. Burgoyne was taken, which was about eleven months from the time I enlisted & I was discharged at Albany, Col. John Ashly gave me the discharge; in the year 1778 I enlisted under command of Capt. Adam Carson for three months, I served out this time; I then in the Town of New marlborough in the year 1780 enlisted for a term of six months, in the Continental army[.] I served under Lieutenant Marble, we were sent to West Point on the Hudson River, I stayed my time out & was discharged there on the ninth day of December 1780 — I was five days at that place about this time without a mouthfull to eat — I was present at the execution of Major Andre, who was hanged as a British spy.5,2

His application approved, David Brooks was inscribed on the roll of Ohio (Pittsburgh) at the rate of $77.22 per annum, effective 4 May 1831. His pension certificate was issued 28 Oct 1838 and sent to Alexr McConnell of Warren, Trumbull Co., Ohio.2
David Brooks died at Braceville 5 Mar 1841, a. 8611,5, and was buried in Braceville Center Cemetery12, his will probated the same year.13 His widow Waity died there 18 Jun 1844, a. 84, although no gravestone is found for her.5,2
30 Nov 1846, the name of Waity Brooks decd, widow of David Brooks, was added to the county pension roll at the rate of $42.20 per annum, to commence 4 Mar 1843, and to end with her death on 18 Sep 1844, benefits payable to the seven surviving children, all daughters.2
A published history of Yakima Valley, Washington, where descendants lived, speaks of "David and Waty Brooks, who passed through the Miami massacre in Ohio." However, this same work also claims, "They had located in Ohio prior to the Revolutionary war," clearly in error.14
