Joel/4s Brooks was born 15 Oct 1743 at Springfield, Massachusetts,and there baptised 23 Oct at the First Church.2,1 He married, 30 Dec 1766 at Glastonbury, Connecticut, Rebecca Gosley of Glastonbury, daughter of Timothy Gosley and Rebecca Hollister.3,4 They were recorded at Glastonbury in the 1790 census, the household comprised of Joel, five males under 16, and four females.5 His probate records him as a resident of Neversink, New York.6

Edmund Grandy, baptised 21 Jun 1685 at the First Church, Roxbury, Massachusetts1, was a soldier at Deerfield, 15 Mar 1711/12.2 Then of Northfield, he married, 7 Jun 1720 at Deerfield, Silence/3s Brooks of Deerfield, daughter of Joseph/2s Brooks and Lydia/3 Warner.3,4 Their children, probably born at Northfield, were recorded at Deerfield.2 He was a soldier under Capt. Kellogg, 1724.2

Local Notes:

Propertybetween 1717 and 1719, Northfield, MAHad a grant of a house lot at Nfd., 1717, and of other land, March 10, 1719, and soon after rem. there;2

Nathaniel/4s Brooks III, 2nd so-named, was born 8 Oct 1743, probably at Winchester, New Hampshire,(also rec. Deerfield, Massachusetts).1,2 He lived for a number of years in that part of Deerfield which became Greenfield3, where he was taxed in 1775 and recorded as an inhabitant prior to 1760.3
     Nathl Brooks, supposed the same, was recorded at Hinsdale, Vermont,in the 1790 census, household composition two males over 16, one male under, and four females. (Hinsdale was renamed Vernon by the legislature in 1802.)4
     One of Vernon's earliest settlers, he "located on the farm now [1884] owned by his grandson, Lewis Brooks, on road 10½. He was a farmer, and died in the town."5
