Nathaniel/4w Brooks, born 17 [7, g.s.] Aug 1703 at Woburn, Massachusetts,1, married, by 1731, Submit/3 Poulter of Lexington, daughter of Jonathan/2 Poulter and Elizabeth (–?–), with whom he had 7 children.2,3
     He was chosen, 19 Oct 1747, for a committee of nine to supervise the construction of a new meetinghouse for Woburn's recently established Third Parish.4 In 1756 he replaced Capt. Benjamin Johnson on a town committee which had charge of a £3,000 loan fund representing the proceeds of Woburn's 1734 sale of 2,000 acres at Turkey Hills.5
     "His will, dated Aug. 16, 1772, lodged Apr. 12, 1776, proved Mar. 15, 1777, names wife Submit; sons Nathaniel, Jonathan, Josiah, Reuben and David; and daughters Submit Wyman and Elizabeth Richardson. The funeral charges for Submit Brooks, widow, found with these papers, mentions her death as occurring in June, 1799."6 Nathaniel died at Woburn in Mar 1776, a. 727, Submit on 1 Jun 1799, a. 90.8

Local Notes:

Property16 Jan 1739/40, Woburn, MAJabez Brooks, of Woburn, husbandman, "in consideration of love, good will, and affection....towards my loving wife, Hepsibeth Brooks," conveys certain household articles and wearing apparel, one large Bible, one silver spoon, a large cupboard, and all "my linen," and a bond due to her from "my son," Ebenezer Brooks.
     On the same date, Jabez Brooks, in a similar conveyance, mentions his sons, Nathaniel Brooks, husbandman, Samuel Brooks, husbandman, John Brooks and Ebenezer Brooks, housewrights, and Benjamin Brooks, husbandman, all of Woburn, to whom he conveys his right in a "way leading from the country road between my house and Mr. Belknap's house to the Richardson Row, to lie for an open road," etc.9

Submit/3 Poulter was born 16 Jun 1708 at Lexington, Massachusetts, and there baptised the 20th.1 She married, by 1731, Nathaniel/4w Brooks of Woburn, son of Jabez/3w Brooks and Hepsibah/3 Cutter, with whom she had 7 children.2,3 Mentioned in his will, dated 16 Aug 1772 and proved 15 Mar 1777.4 Nathaniel died at Woburn in Mar 1776, a. 725, and she 1 Jun [31 May, g.s.] 1799, a. 90.6
