Ens. Gerard/1 Spencer was baptised 25 Apr 1614 at Stotfold, Bedfordshire.2 At Cambridge, Massachusetts, "in the prime of September 1634, Lots granted one west side River—Gerrad Spencer 4 ackrs."2 He married (1), 17 Dec 1636 at Lynn, Hannah Hills, daughter of William Hills.2 Removed to Lynn with his brother Michael in 1638 and ran the ferry from Needham's Landing, Lynn to Baird's Landing, Saugus.2 Granted, 29 Nov 1653, administration of his brother Michael's estate, and called his brother in the inventory.3
     One of the 28 original proprietors of Haddam, Connecticut, 1661.2 Ensigne Jarrad Spencer was "propownded for a freeman" at a meeting of the Court at Hartford, 26 Jun 1672.4 Commissioned ensign 14 Sep 1675.2 He perhaps married (2), after 1677, Rebecca/2 Porter, daughter of John/1 Porter and Ann White, of Windsor, and widow of John Clark of Saybrook.5 Will 17 Sep 1683 (proved 3 Sep 1685).5 He died 3 Sep 1685 at East Haddam, a. 71.2

Hannah Hills married, as his 1st wife, 17 Dec 1636 at Lynn, Massachusetts, Ens. Gerard/1 Spencer Jr., son of Gerard/a Spencer and Alice Whitbred.2 She "died before her husband made his will in 1683 and perhaps much earlier," says Jacobus.1

Rebecca/2 Porter was baptised 16 Sep 1630 at Felsted, Essex.2 The widow of John White of Saybrook, Connecticut, she perhaps married, as his 2nd wife, after 1677, Ens. Gerard/1 Spencer of Haddam, son of Gerard/a Spencer and Alice Whitbred.2 She died 9 Jan 1682/83 (rec. Saybrook).2
