According to a descendant's NSDAR membership application, "Abraham Brooks, 1775, enlisted in Capt. John Ely's company, Col. Samuel Holden Parsons' regiment. He was captured and confined on the prison ship Jersey, but being a good swimmer made his escape."2

Abraham/4h Brooks Jr. was born 16 Sep 1750 at Haddam, Connecticut.1 His name is included in a 1775 list of Haddam persons resident in that town who had been employed in the Continental service in 1775, and who under a law passed in December of that year were exempted from the payment of certain taxes to the state.3
     He married, 4 May 1780 at Haddam, Abigail Clark, daughter of John Clark and Susanna Smith,4, and they were recorded there in 1790.5 He died at Haddam 27 Mar 1824 (g.s.), a. 736,7, and his widow 1 Jan 1838, "age 79."8 They are buried in Higganum Cemetery.9

Jonathan/4h Brooks was born 23 Sep 1747 at Haddam, Connecticut1, where he married, 1 Oct 1767, Hope Bailey.2 The 1790 census recorded their Haddam household as Jonathan, two males under 16, and four females.3 He died 20 Feb 1797 (g.s.), "ae 49."4 His widow's death at Middletown was reported in a newspaper of 4 Aug 1828.5 He is buried in Thirty Mile Island Plantation Burial Yard, Haddam.4,6
