Caius C/6g Brooks, born circa 1794 in Chenango County, New York, probably at Plasterville or Sherburne Four Corners2, was mentioned in his father's will, 12 Sep 1822, and witnessed (both as Cassius C.) his brothers' inventory of their father's estate.3 He married, by 1826, Abigail Mead, daughter of Amos Mead, "nicknamed 'Horseneck Mead,' from the name of the place from whence he came in New England, to distinguish him from Amos Mead, who came from Dutchess county and settled in North Norwich [New York]."4,5
He lived on his father's farm at South Plymouth, New York, where the 1860 census recorded him (a. 66, farmer, r.e. $1,500, p.e. $100), his wife evidently deceased, and his unmarried sister Clarissa keeping house for him.2 He "afterwards removed to Michigan," says a county history.5
He probably died back in New York; there are conflicting accounts of him in chapters 23 and 29 of Smith's Hist. Madison-Chenango Counties, NY. One of these states that he died on the farm where he lived.5 There is a gravestone for Caius Brooks in Stewart's Corners Cemetery, Plymouth, where his parents and several siblings are buried.6
