Sgt. Isaac/2 Graves, born in England "prob. as early as 1620,"1 removed with his parents to New England before 1645.3,2 There he married, by 1647, Mary/2 Church, daughter of Richard/1 Church and Anne/1 Marsh.1,4 Sgt. Isaac/2 Graves was Around the end of 1657, religious differences over the "Half-Way Covenant" boiled over into what is known today as the "Hartford Controversy." led first to a petition to the government at Hartford, of which Nathaniel/2 Graves was a signer. The minister at the heart of matters removed to Norwattock (Hadley, Massachusetts), and on 15 Mar 1661 Thomas, Isaac and John Graves signed an agreement to move there as well. They settled in what was then Hadley, but in 1670 was incorporated as Hatfield. with Thomas/1 Graves in 1657 at Wethersfield, Connecticut.2 Removed with his father from Wethersfield, Connecticut to Hadley, Massachusetts in 1661.3
     31 Mar 1663, Isaac Graves, son of "Goodman Graves," was appointed administrator of his father's estate and filed an inventory. "The widow was to have her thirds."5 One of a committee of five appointed by the General Court, 11 Oct 1672, to lay out and order the new settlement of Squakheag, later Northfield. Of these, Clarke, Allis and Graves went up to Squakheag, probably in the fall of 1672, "with two of the engagers," and laid out the township. Isaac Graves was also on a committee to lay out the town of Deerfield.6 He was killed in the Indian attack on Hatfield, 19 Sep 1677.7
