  • John/3 Whitmore5 b. 27 Aug 1683, d. 26 Mar 1753
Dea. John/2 Whitmore was born 1 Oct 1654 at Cambridge, Massachusetts.2 Charles Brooks, in Hist. Medford, imagines that this is the son of one John of Wethersfield and Stamford, Connecticut, who was killed by the Indians in 1648. More likely he is John/2, son of Francis/1 of Cambridge.2,1
He married (1), as her 2nd husband, by 1678 [Charles Brooks], Rachel Eliot, daughter of Francis Eliot, and widow of John Poulter.1 An early settler at Medford, there he bought from Caleb Hobart, circa 1680, one-fourth of the Collins Farm, the 400-acre property which Capt. Thomas/1 Brooks and his son-in-law Timothy Wheeler had purchased 20 years earlier from Edward Collins himself.1 He also had land in Billerica and Charlestown1, and served under Maj. Swayne against the Indians "at Saco."1
His wife Rachel died 20 Mar 17233, and he married (2), 3 Jun 1724, Rebecca Cutter1, and died 22 Feb 1739 (g.s.) "in 87th y."1,4 He is buried in Salem St. Cemetery, Medford.4
