John/2 Graves, born in England1, married (1), in New England, Mary/2 Smith, daughter of Lt. Samuel/1 Smith and Elizabeth (–?–), who died in Jul 1671, several weeks after childbirth.3,1 John/2 Graves was Around the end of 1657, religious differences over the "Half-Way Covenant" boiled over into what is known today as the "Hartford Controversy." led first to a petition to the government at Hartford, of which Nathaniel/2 Graves was a signer. The minister at the heart of matters removed to Norwattock (Hadley, Massachusetts), and on 15 Mar 1661 Thomas, Isaac and John Graves signed an agreement to move there as well. They settled in what was then Hadley, but in 1670 was incorporated as Hatfield. with Thomas/1 Graves in 1657 at Wethersfield, Connecticut.2 Removed with his father from Wethersfield, Connecticut to Hadley, Massachusetts in 1661.4 He married (2) Mary Bronson, daughter of John Bronson, and widow of John Wyatt of Haddam, Connecticut.5,1 He was slain in the Indian attack on Hatfield, 17 Sep 1677.1 His widow married twice more.6,5

Mary/2 Smith, born in England circa 16301, sailed with her family, a. 4, 30 Apr 1634, for New England, where they settled at Wethersfield, Connecticut.1,2 She married, as his (1st?) wife, John/2 Graves, son of Thomas/1 Graves and Sarah (–?–),4,3, and died in Jul 1671 at Hatfield, Massachusetts.4
