Anna May/7k Cole, born 21 Feb 1865 at Gorham, Maine1,2, graduated Mt. Holyoke College, 1888, and became a teacher.1 Unmarried, she died circa 1953 (aged 88 per obit) at the home of a niece in Marlborough, New Hampshire3, and is buried in High Street Cemetery, Hampton, New Hampshire.2

Anna May Cole, 88; of Hampton, a retired Hampton School Teacher, passed away at her niece's home in Marlboro.
     Anna graduated from Mount Holyoke College in 1888 and from Middlebury College in Vermont. She also attended Massachusetts Agricultural College. At a time when it was thought unusual for a single woman to travel alone, Miss Cole embarked on a tour of England, Scotland and France.
     She taught in Hampton schools for 21 years where she was one of the first teachers at Hampton Academy and High School.
     After the death of her father she lived at the family homestead on Winnacunnet Road alone where she also ran a greenhouse at one time. After her father's death she taught 5 years at Atkinson Academy in Fairfax, Vermont.
     Miss Cole was the oldest living member of the Congregational Church joining in 1884. She served as a Sunday school teacher and a clerk of the school and church for many years. She was also a member of the Ocean Side Grange and of the Hampton Garden Club.
     Besides her niece, she leaves two nephews, Elroy G. of Hampton and Everett of Denver, Colorado.
     Burial was in the High Street Cemetery.

Ernest Gowell/7k Cole, born 16 Jun 1869 at Hampton, New Hampshire1,2, graduated New Hampshire State College of Agriculture and Mechanical Arts, 1891, and became a merchant.1 He married Caroline E. Jones.1,3
     Hist. Rockingham County (1915) calls him "a prominent merchant of Hampton and also postmaster here."1 He died at Hampton 8 Mar 1936, a. 664, and she in 1937.5 They are buried in High Street Cemetery.3
