Joseph/2 Dakin, born circa 1671 (g.s.) at Concord, Massachusetts,(no record surviving)2, there married, 16 Jul 1696, Dorothy/3 Worcester of Bradford, daughter of Samuel/2 Worcester and Elizabeth Parrott.3 He lived, says Shattuck, "by Flint's Pond, where Mr. Smith now [1835] lives," having inherited his father's property there.1
The will of his father Thomas/1 Dakin, dated 20 Jan 1697/98, made Joseph executor of his will and full heir of his estate after paying specified legacies to his siblings, "provided hee maintane mee and my wife onerably and comfortable." Although Joseph was his youngest son, his father made him his heir in exchange for life care and companionship for himself and his wife Susanna. On 6 Jul 1703, "In consideration of what hath been done allready & wch I do further do Expect in order to my Comfortable maintenance by my loveing and Duty full Son Joseph Dakin Dwelling in my house with me," his father conveyed to Joseph by deed his house, lands and movable estate.4
Joseph was appointed administrator of his brother John's estate 12 Nov 1711, and guardian of John's son Thomas.5 In his own will, dated 8 May 1739, proved 13 Apr 1744, he describes himself as "Housewright, being in the seventieth year of my age."6
He died at Concord 13 Mar 1744 (c.r., g.s.), "75th year,"2 and is interred in the South Burying Ground.7
