Almyra/7s Stiles, born circa Aug 1822 (g.s.)2, married Dr. William Clark.1 She died 1 Apr 1871, a. 48-8 ("in the prime of life, leaving an infant son," says Stiles Family in America)1,2, and is buried in Weymouth Cemetery, Weymouth, Ohio.2
The [Jairus Stiles] family, consisting of the parents, three daughters and two sons (two others having died early in childhood), was noted for intelligence and high moral character. The children attended the famous McGregor school in Wadsworth, and later were connected as pupils, and as instructors, of Hiram College. The two eldest daughters, Eleanor and Almyra were very successful teachers, and many now in mature life, will remember with pleasure, as does the writer, their superior teaching in loyalty to duty, their finer scorn of everything base and low, and their success in inspiring and developing the better natures of their pupils. Who can mark the limit of such influences, for the young president of Hiram College [James A. Garfield], with whom they were associated in the school, and as members of his calling, found a lifelong friendship and used to visit them here before he was known to fame as a soldier, statesman, president and martyr.3
