Henry/3w Brooks was born 4 Oct 1671 at Woburn, Massachusetts.1 In the will of his grandfather Henry/1w Brooks, dated 18 Jul 1682, Henry and his brother Isaac were jointly bequeathed "about 80 acres of upland on west side of the highway on both sides of the river," half of three small shares amounting to 15 acres in the town's common land, and half of 6 acres in Shred Pine Meadow "for the town privilege in herbage." They shared with their sister Miriam a bequest of 8 acres in Forty Pound Meadow.2,3,4 Of Woburn, there Henry married (1), 9 Dec 1692, Mary Graves of Sudbury.5,6 Of Sudbury, 1696, per Middlesex County Deeds.7
A clothier and husbandman, he removed, by 1699, to New London, Connecticut, where his wife apparently died.8 There he married (2), 30 May 1704, Eleph/3 Chappell of N.L., daughter of George/2 Chappell and Alice Way.9,10 Henry and Eleph owned the covenant 29 Sep 1706 at the First Church, and four of their children were baptised the same day.11
His will, dated 20 May 1727, was proved 1733/4. To sons Henry, Isaac, Timothy, John, Comfort, Samuel, Josiah, and Benjamin, and daughters Hannah Beckwith, Ruth Brooks, Eliff Brooks, Anna Brooks, and Mary Brooks, each a legacy of £2 current money. Wife Eliff, executrix.12 Henry Brooks died at New London 17 Feb 1733/34, a. 6213,14, and was interred in the Ancient Burying Ground.8 Eleph died at New London 5 Feb 1751/52.8
Probably the same Henry Brooks who successfully petitioned the General Court, 13 Oct 1720, for a reversal of superior court judgment against him in a suit with Ebenz Dart.15

Local Notes:

Propertycirca 1693, Woburn, MA"Henry Brooks, husbandman, sold (abt 1693) to Jonathan Richardson, 80 acres in Woburn given him by the will of his grandfather, Henry Brooks13
Property9 Dec 1696, Reading, MAIsaac and his brother, Henry Brooks, sold a parcel of land in Reading, 9 Dec., 1696, and Mary, the wife of Henry, joined in the deed. (Middlesex Co. Deeds, Vol. 12, p. 11.) From the fact that Isaac's wife did not sign with the others, the inference is that she had died some time between March and December of that year.16
