As the earliest of this surname at Kittery, and because he cannot be connected to any other first generation founder as a son, it is here assumed that this man emigrated on his own, and that his descendants constitute an independent line. Y-DNA testing to date, while limited to one descendant participant, supports this hypothesis.

John/1k Brooks, "± 28 in 1696," was born circa 1668.1 He married, as her 1st husband, by 1692, probably at Kittery, Maine, Eleanor/2 Frye, daughter of Adrian/1 Frye and Sarah White.2,3 Had a grant of land at Kittery, 1694, which he sold, 1696; in 1718 the land was owned by Wm. Godsoe.4,5 His name appears on a list of Sufferers from the Indians in the Second War.1 "This family probably moved out of town," says Stackpole.4 His widow administered his estate 26 Nov 1712.4,1

Eleanor/2 Frye, born circa 1668 at Kittery, Maine,2,3, removed with her parents for safety at the time of Philip's War to Portsmouth, New Hampshire.1 She married (1), by 1692, probably at Kittery, John/1k Brooks2,4, of whose estate she was granted administration 26 Nov 1712.5 She married (2), 8 Jan 1712/13 at Kittery, John Bishop.2,6 By 1716 they had removed to Kingston, New Hampshire.7
