Capt. Caleb/4a Brooks, born 8 Jul 1694 at Medford, Massachusetts,1, lived at Charlestown and in that part of Medford which became Winchester. Then of Charlestown, there he married (1), 3 Mar 1730/31 (int. 22 Jan), Mary/4 Winn of Charlestown, daughter of Increase/3 Winn and Mary (–?–), with whom he had 10 children.2 She died at Medford 1 Jan 1745/46.3 There he married (2), 1 Mar 1749/50, Ruth/2 Albree of Medford, daughter of John/1 Albree and Elizabeth Green, with whom he had 5 children.4
Administrator of his mother's estate, he filed her inventory 16 May 1757.5
"His Will, dated May 2, 1766, mentions wife Ruth, son Caleb, son John (who is provided for, as wishing to be a physician), drs. Mary Pratt, Abigail Hall, Ruth Secomb, Sarah, Increase, Elizabeth, Hannah, and Ebenezer."6 "He was administrator of his father's estate, dated May 16, 1766, and his discharge is signed by Ebenezer, Thomas, Samuel Nathan Cheever, Thomas Oakes, Samuel, Rebecca Pratt. This makes all the children then living, but Mary."7
Caleb died at Medford 21 Nov 1766, a. 728, and is buried with both wives in Salem Street Cemetery.9 Seccomb's Journal records, "Nov 30 1766. Funeral sermon for Capt. Caleb Brooks, who died of a cancer in the face the 28th. of Nov."10 His widow died 6 May 1793, a. 74.11
Caleb Brooks was the surveyor chosen by a committee of Woburn townsmen, 1739, to assist them in laying out the town's last extensive division of common land.12 Annette Anderson says he raised a force for service in Canada in 1745.13
"He built at the time of his marriage, the house at Symmes corner, now called the Burket [correctly the Le Bosquet] house, and there he lived and died. This homestead was inherited by his eldest son Ebenezer, and is still in the possession of the heirs of his daughter Mary," William Gray Brooks wrote in 1855. In 1938 the Historic American Buildings Survey conducted by the National Park Service made both photographs and measured drawings of this structure, which they called the "Brooks Farm House," at 24 Woburn Street, Medford.10
