Child with Sarah Osborn:

John/1f Brooks, "probably from New Haven," purchased his first land at Stratford, Connecticut, on 18 Mar 1679/80.1 There he married, as her 2nd husband, 25 Mar 1685, Sarah Osborn, daughter of Richard Osborn, of Fairfield, and widow of John Peet Jr., with whom he had one child, a son.2,3 She died in 1694.1 His will, 11 Mar 1694/5, mentions his only son Benjamin; brother-in-law John Osborn of Fairfield, executor; overseers, Dea. Thomas Welles and John Beach of Stratford.3 His inventory was dated eight days later, 19 Mar 1694/5.3
Evelyn Beran notes, "The Beach family had been at New Haven before they came to Stratford, so it is possible that John Brooks came from New Haven." Yale seems to make this assumption in confusing John/1c Brooks of New Haven with John/1f Brooks of Stratford, when he says of the New Haven man, "[I]t is supposed that he and his family removed to Fairfield county." The Stratford man's will and inventory are dated Mar 1694/5, while the New Haven man was receiving town assistance there as late as 1708.4
